World Wetlands Day: Attention Educators, Parents and Wetlands Supporters

Yes, we missed it this year, but next year the recognition will be on a Monday, a good day for teaching.

This Local Effort Is Part of a Global Movement

For those following A Frog House’s journey to install vernal ponds in Robert C. Corby Arboretum and Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s inspiring to know that this work aligns with an international mission to save our planet.

  • The Convention on Wetlands (established in 1971) adopted an international treaty to protect these critical ecosystems.
  • Since 1997, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands has celebrated and promoted World Wetlands Day on February 2 each year.
  • In 2021, the UN General Assembly officially recognized February 2 as World Wetlands Day to emphasize the importance of preserving wetlands.

Build Vernal Ponds with A Frog House

This is an example of the type of pond we will build in April 2025

This spring, A Frog House is taking a major step toward amphibian conservation by creating three permanent vernal pools—temporary wetlands that will last forever! The project will be completed just in time for Save The Frogs Day on April 28.

On April 25, 26 and 27, we will build three new vernal ponds in the Robert C. Corby Arboretum and Wildlife Sanctuary.

Working in consultation with wetland expert Tom Biebighauser, A Frog House CEO Margot Fass, Friends of the Arboretum president Rob Corby, the Pittsford Village Mayor and Board, and a SAVE THE FROGS! representative, we will construct three new vernal ponds to support local wildlife.
